Henry was the first real character I added to the story. My favorite too. I was sitting in my old shitty shed with a drink, laptop, and smoking away while writing my book. He has a profound love of avocados. Why? Because why the hell not? Or maybe it was me sitting and weaving together a story, and I turned my internal monologue, aka inner voice or whatever, into its own character. It was colder than nipples in the freezer, and I had this 6-month-old avocado tree sapling from my sister. I was determined to keep alive, and everyone I knew had already died. So I brought it into my shed and kept the thing warm with a tiny ass space heater. Last July, the little gut came to me, less than a foot tall, with 4 leaves. One year later, it's almost 3 feet tall, thriving, and has a billion leaves. So Henry is me and my pet avocado tree.
